Main characters: Matron Gassbeek, Milou, Fenna, Lotta, Sem, Egbert
“The remarkable, the extraordinary, the brave.”
Audrey says “This book is brilliant because of all of the set mysteries and horrors. It starts as an introduction to all the characters: how they got their names and a little more about them. After, it is proven that it's going to mainly Milou’s thoughts or opinions. Milou, as she’s spent all of her life in an orphanage, doesn't know much about who or where are her parents. Luckily, she has made some friends that were left at similar times as her. She is around the age of twelve and her four friends go by the names of Lotta, Fenna, Sem and Egbert. Then you get to the line-ups. They are where a person or few people want to adopt a child and the orphans have to look their best - but Milou doesn't want to get chosen. This is because she wants to find her true parents instead of some strangers. She and her friends have to escape the Matron's clutches by making a devious escape but there is someone tracking them down, for he and Gassbeek had made an agreement - five orphans and some cash for removing all of the rodents. The five orphans that he first wanted were supposedly the oldest - Fenna: twelve-ish, Egbert: twelve-ish, Sem: thirteen-ish, Lotta: twelve-ish and Milou: twelve-ish. He wished to take them all but Milou knew that something was up. They narrowly escape but all hell breaks loose. Where to go? They end up deciding to go to the coordinates that have been scratched into the pocket watch and Milou is convinced that her parents are going to be there. But no trace of them is left except for a few old clothes and cutlery. But will Milou find her relatives before she is caught by Rotman?
